The school is situated in a wonderfully calm and serene area of about 50 acres consisting of two hillocks and a small valley. The school, affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi, is owned by the Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust , Sivagiri Mutt , which is founded by the Great Guru, Sree Narayana Gurudevan. The Sivagir Mutt’s enthusiasm is noticeable in its establishment and progress. It is with the intention of fulfilling one of the foremost messages of the Guru. “ENLIGHTEN THROUGH EDUCATION” in the practical life, that the Trust, a public charitable institution opened the school on June 1, 1979. It has now grown steadily and is today an ISO 9001-2008 certified institution. The school has now completed 38 successful years. It is today one of the leading Senior Secondary Schools in the district.

M.G.M Model School, Ayiroor, Varkala is one of the most prestigious projects of the Aykia Pradayini Trust founded by Dr. P. K. Sukumaran, Educationalist, Philanthropist along with a set of selfless, dedicated social workers in 1983. The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the school were inaugurated by Shri. R.L. Bhatia (the then Kerala Governor) on 2nd October 2007 in the presence of Late Shri. Varkala Radhakrishnan (M.P) and Shri. Varkala Kahar (M.L.A). The valedictory of the Jubilee was graced by His Eminence A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
